[SSPX Chapel Cape Town] Audio Conference Room for Catechism

Dear Faithful,

We are overjoyed that the audio stream that we have installed in
our chapel is working for so many of you. We had 21 connections
for the Mass and Way of the Cross this evening, with everyone
reporting a decent audio quality.

Wishing to build on this success, and in an effort to keep us
united in this time of trial, I have installed an audio
conferencing solution on the server which can be used for
catechism and even for idle conversation. It allows for anyone who
knows the password to the server to use several "rooms"
established for audio conferencing. The only cost to you would be
your internet connection and the trouble to install the software.

The client for this software is called "Mumble", which is a very
tried and tested program that has served this purpose for many
years. Moreover, it is also free and open source which means that
it costs nothing but knowledge and the time and effort to put the
pieces together. It is also not dependant on any company so there
are no advertisements and no collecting of information to sell to
third parties. I have put together the server and all the
important pieces, and it only remains for you to install the
client program on your computer in order to connect to the
server.

An headset would be better if you wish to participate in the
discussion, but to simply listen your computer speakers will be
fine. The main reason however that we are having the catechism via
audio conferencing is so that you can ask questions and also
interact with your fellow parishoners.

Here is where to download the software:
https://www.mumble.info/downloads/

Be sure to download the proper version. Most people seem to have
Windows 64 bit. If you have Linux you probably already know that
you can install it using your package manager.

Once you have installed the program, it will lead you through a
wizard to adjust your audio settings. They are fairly
self-explanatory. When that is finished you want to "Connect" and
you push the button "Add New". It will ask for several
things. Here is what you fill in:

* Lable: <anything you want, but maybe "Chapel">
* Address: fsspx.me
* Port: <leave this alone, default number 64738 is fine>
* Username: <perhaps your initial and last name: mine is
  jsrjenkins>
* Password: avemaria

The most important information is the address and the password,
the rest is somewhat arbitrary.

You will see several conference rooms when you login, as well as a
place where you can message via text. The software is meant to be
more functional than beautiful, and it does it's job very well.

The catechism for tomorrow will start at the usual time of 10:30
in the 'Catechism' room. This will leave plenty of time after the
Mass for those having trouble installing the software to ask for
help, which you can do via WhatsApp. Those wishing to chat and
test their installation are free to do so in the 'General
Discussion' room.

The server is capped at the moment for 100 users, but I can easily
modify this parameter as need be. If you know of anyone who would
like to participate or listen to the catechism feel free to share
this information. We hope it will prove useful also for the Latin
class and for some spiritual conferences during Holy Week.

Hoping to hear from you soon!

God bless you,
--
